Logo

We are athenahealth: one brand, one logo.

Our logo

The athenahealth logo is our most identifiable asset. Its form is a singular, powerful expression of our brand that must be used consistently across all of our communications.

How we use our logo

Impact

To create the greatest brand impact and reinforce our unique look and feel, we use, whenever possible, our full-color positive logo (green symbol and purple name) on white or light-color backgrounds and imagery (i.e., less than a 20% black value).

When we cannot use the full-color positive logo, we use the full-color reverse logo (purple symbol and purple name) - and only on athena purple.

When we cannot use the full-color positive logo or the full-color reverse logo, we use the all-white logo.

Color

To provide flexibility in addressing specific audience, touchpoint or messaging needs, we use our all-white reverse logo (white symbol and name) on imagery or accent colors from our palette.

Using the all-white logo ensures that both our symbol and name are clearly visible and identifiable where color contrast otherwise could be compromised.

Note: When written in text, “athenahealth” always uses lowercase with no space between “athena” and “health.”

Flexibility

The horizontal version is the primary version of our logo.

In the event that using this version would impact legibility or impact, an alternate stacked version of the logo is available to use with brand permission.

If we cannot use the horizontal version or the stacked version of the logo for any reason, a leaf-only iteration of the logo may be used with explicit brand permission only.

Exceptions

The olive leaf icon must appear with the athenahealth logotype and may not stand alone, except in these two specific cases:

  1. The olive leaf may be used by itself in the athenaOne app icon.
  2. In certain situations, when sizing limitations exist, the olive leaf may be used as a desktop icon. Contact the Brand team for permission.

Clear space and minimum size

It is important to surround our logo with a healthy amount of breathing room—clear space—so it stands out in our communications.

Avoid placing any text (such as URLs) or graphic elements within the designated clear space. Whenever possible, allow for more clear space than the minimum requirement.

Additionally, to ensure legibility, never scale the logo smaller than the minimum size recommendation.

Here are some examples of what to do and what not to do when using our logo.

Do ensure there is sufficient clear space around the logo.
Do use our full-color positive logo on white or light-color backgrounds.
Do use our full-color reverse logo on purple backgrounds.
Do use our all-white reverse logo on imagery backgrounds.
Do not change our logo artwork colors, modify their shape, or add effects like drop shadows.
Do not use our symbol alone without approval from the athenhealth brand committee.
Do not use our full-color reverse logo on colors other than our primary purple background.
Do not use our all-white reverse logo on backgrounds that are complex or provide insufficient contrast for visibility.

Letting partners use our logo

The athenahealth logo is among our most identifiable assets, and the athenahealth name means something in the marketplace. We must be selective when considering requests from vendors and partners to use our logo on their websites or marketing materials. When we allow a company other than athenahealth to use our name or logo, we’re allowing them to trade on the significant value that our mark has accrued over the last twenty-plus years. Although it might seem rude to not readily allow all requests to use our logo, the protection of our brand and intellectual property assets warrants consideration of each request by athenahealth’s brand team. If you receive a request from a trusted partner to use our logo in conjunction with our partner’s logo please direct all third-party logo usage requests to brand@athenahealth.com.
